We are thrilled to have opened our 7th library in the village of Burham, a small village near Ramallah. This library serves the residents of Burham and it's neighboring village Jibyia, as well as part of Birzeit. Our partner in this library is the Burham Charitable Society, led by an enthusiastic and active group of women from both villages. The organization is not only the sole group for women in the village but the only civil society organization in the area as well. These are very motivated women who are working to improve their village, and have been enthusiastic partners. The library serves around 900 children and 2000 adults.
The library is housed in a 600 year old structure in the center of the town and accessible to everyone in the community: men, women, young people and children. With the support of Seraj, the building was renovated by a local carpenter and labor on the inside and outside and fully equipped with shelves, tables, chairs computers, Internet connect and most important of all, books.
