Welcome!  Today's Topic is

Seraj Cultural Activites

Your Wednesday Video:

Seraj Cultural Activities (3:50)

Cultural activities are regularly scheduled in the libraries, using musicians, artists, dancers, and storytellers! This video has several clips from some of those programs. Fida'a Ataya, our storyteller par excellence, mesmerizes audiences with her drumming and phrasing to draw them into the story's drama. As you can see, children, and everyone, love the programs.

The video also shows community members joining together to celebrate the libraries and their benefits to all.

Each of our daily videos were made in the past month. Laurie Salameh, our Director in Palestine, and Fida'a Ataya, our Library Coordinator, worked together to capture our work and daily life in Palestine. It was a gallant effort, in the midst of the pandemic and the lockdown. We are most appreciative of their efforts. Please enjoy all 5 videos.  By the end of the week, all the videos will be available on our website.

Palestinian culture and heritage is under threat.  Seraj is part of an effort to preserve and nurture this rich tradition.

Our website provides a description of the “Ramadan Nights” Festival, a prime example of our cultural programs.

Why I support Seraj?  A few of Your Responses:

We have been asking our donors why they support Seraj.  Each day we will post a few of your responses.

Nelson Mandela, shared by a Seraj supporter

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Cheryl Chapman, Long Beach, IN

I support Seraj because as a writer of picture books, I know the power of story. To me, libraries are modern day castles, especially the Seraj libraries in Palestine. This is where the brave children go, finding treasure in the remarkable librarians, storytellers, books, computers, and resources there that will shape their lives...All children, especially children who live their lives in danger due to the political choices their leaders make, deserve safety, and beautiful memories of their childhoods. Thank you, Seraj Libraries, for providing that for so many!  My hope is that because of you, these children will grow up smarter, more capable, curious, and creative, and finally able to figure out a way towards peace in their land.

For all the good reasons, and in honor of Seraj volunteers.

I’ve been supporting Palestinian projects since 1974.  I was in the middle east and saw the refugee camps.

The Tally.  Help us move toward success.

A generous set of donors give us monthly gifts. The monthly donations range from $5.00 to $150.00. No matter the amount, these monthly gifts are an inspiration to us. They also help our financial planning. Consider joining the ranks of these monthly givers.  It’s easy — simply check “Show my support by making this a recurring donation.” when giving on-line.  Your credit card donation will process each month thereafter.

Seraj has some very exciting projects ready to go, as soon as Palestinian society opens up.  $60,000 from the Benefit would put us in a very good place.  How high will the tally go? YOU can make a difference for Palestinian children, their families and communities.

Please be generous!  Our Benefit is a major source of our funds.  And, we will be eternally grateful and pledge good use of your donations.  Thank you!
